Collect the required documents.
In addition to the signed contract and application forms you will be required to submit a set of supporting documentation to your penitential employer.
Getting your documentation in order can be complicated and confusing and Global Campus will help you though the process and give you tips and advice to make it faster and easier. It is quite important that you collect ALL the required documents and send them to the right places in the right order. Failure to process your documents correctly can cause delays and result in having to do certain steps over again.
The following is a list of the documents you will need to include in your application package.
Resume
We can review and help you to revise your resume.
Three signed copies of the official contract
You will print three copies of the official contract (written in both Korean and English) and sign each, and then you will send all three copies to Korea as part of your application package to be signed by your employer. After your employer has signed each of the three copies, they will send two signed copies back to you (the applicant). You will keep one copy for your own records and the third copy will be used for your Visa application.
Proof of citizenship
(copy of photo page of passport from Canada, U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand, U.K., Ireland, South Africa);
Of course your passport must be up to date. This must be your passport and not some other form of documentation such as a birth certificate.
IMPORTANT: please prepare two passport sized colour photos taken within the last three months. One will be attached to your application form; the other will be used in the Visa application
Two letters of reference (character & performance) with contact details;
If you have teaching experience we would prefer that you provide references from supervisors who have observed you teach and or interact with children. However, if you do not have any teaching experience we still require that you provide references regarding your character. In either case these should be people who have known you well. While it may not be possible in all cases we do encourage you to find people who can attest to your character and competence from an objective perspective.
IMPORTANT POINTS:
- If you have prior teaching experience it is very important to have your references indicate the period time that you taught. This is very important to document your level of experience.
- Reference letters for all applicants must be signed by the people who wrote them. If they can be written on school letterhead that will be even better. Photocopies of the original are acceptable.
Self Health Assessment Report;
When you receive the application package from Global Campus you need to fill-out a “self health evaluation form” The Korean Education office has a strict policy requiring that foreign English Teachers must be in good health. Any illness or communicable diseases may prevent you from being considered.
Once you arrive in South Korea you will be required to have a “full physical examination” as part of your Alien Registration. Your sponsor school will assist you in getting your health examination. Korean Immigration Office requires foreign English teachers to pass the physical examination so it is advisable to be completely honest to the best of your ability on the Self Health Assessment Report.
Federal or provincial / state level criminal record check;
It is very important that you get a criminal record check at a state or provincial level. Federal checks are acceptable but they require more time and money and are not necessary. The check must be recent, no more than six months old at the time you apply for your E2 visa. Depending on your country of origin you will need to get your criminal record check notarized or apostilled at one of several different offices.
Original or notarized copy of your university degree(s);
GEPIK will need proof of your academic qualifications. You can send your original degree(s) to GEPIK; however, not everyone is willing to send their original documents half way around the world. If you wish you can send a notarized copy. You must get the copy of your degree(s) notarized at the nearest Korean Consulate or the Secretary of State in your State (only for Americans).
Sealed official university transcripts, indicating degree(s) conferred;
You will need two sets of sealed official university transcripts for each degree that you hold. You will need to send a set of transcripts as part of your job application package. You will need the second set of official sealed transcripts for your E-2 visa application. Keep the second set with you and send only ONE set of official transcripts with you job application. Please remember not to open the envelops of the transcripts, as that makes them instantly unofficial.
Original or notarized copy of your Teaching Certificate (if applicable);
If you hold a valid Teaching Certificate or TESOL or TEFL certificates, you should include either the original or a notarized copy of the original. The more qualifications you have the higher you will be on the pay scale.
